Haggard back in Colorado Springs
Former New life Church pastor caught up in a sex scandal
involving a male prostitute has returned to Colorado Springs.
Ted Haggard, who founded the church which grew to 14,000
members, reportedly
answered his
Colorado Springs
telephone number
Sunday, June 22 and
confirmed he was
back in town. New
Life's new pastor
Brady Boyd told
Associated Press that
Haggard moved back
Haggard
to Colorado Springs about two weeks ago. Under a severance
deal Haggard reached with the church in 2006, Haggard agreed
to leave Colorado Springs and not talk about the scandal publicly.
The deal expired at the end of 2007 and Boyd said Haggard
was now free to live where he wanted.
"They have moved back and they live in the original house
that they lived in for many years," Boyd said of Haggard and his
wife Gayle.
Haggard was fired as pastor of the 14,000-member church
he founded in November 2006 after a former male prostitute
alleged they had a cash-for-sex relationship.
Haggard, who also stepped down as president of the National
Association of Evangelicals, confessed to undisclosed "sexual
immorality" and said he bought meth but didn't use it.
Haggard then moved to Phoenix with his family to begin what
church leaders called a spiritual restoration program which was
expected to include counseling and prayer and last five years or
longer. Boyd said Haggard asked to released from the restoration
program in January and he no longer has any ties to New Life
Church.
German Lutherans poised to elect
homosexual bishop
HAMBURG - German Lutherans may elect their first openly
homosexual bishop. Horst Gorski is a senior cleric from
Hamburg and is standing for the post of bishop of Schleswig in
northern Germany.
The possibility of Gorski's being elected a bishop is dividing
German Lutherans. Die Welt newspaper quoted Ulrich Ruess,
a pastor in the northern city of Hamburg, who warned, "Many
members of the community would have little understanding for a
bishop with this kind of lifestyle."
Reuters reports that Gorski is a homosexual activist theologian
who has set up "centres" for homosexual clergy. Lutheran

officials refuse to take Gorski out of the running, saying that the
church has no official stand on homosexuality. The Lutheran
World Federation has said it does not intend to get involved in
a controversy. LWF General Secretary Reverend Ishmael Noko
told Reuters, "We have no position on this issue at the moment."
He added that the LWF has commissioned a study on marriage,
family and sexuality.
Lutheranism in general is besieged with demands from the
homosexual movement for acceptance of their "lifestyle." In
2007, the national assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
of America passed a resolution urging bishops to "refrain from
or demonstrate restraint" in disciplining homosexual clergy in
"faithful committed same-gender relationships."
Since at least 2007, Swedish Lutherans have offered "blessings"
for homosexual partnerings. While Sweden's Lutheran
Church has not made any official decision on performing "gay
marriages," the church has "blessed" homosexual civil partnerships
and welcomed actively homosexual clergy.
Young Disney star vows
abstinence until marriage
HOLLYWOOD - Selena Gomez, the 15-year-old up-andcoming
Hollywood star who is being hailed as "the next Miley
Cyrus" - the wildly popular star of the Disney Channel show
Hannah Montana - has made public her intention to remain
chaste until marriage.
Gomez started in the entertainment industry at the young age
of 10, landing the part of Gianna on Barney & Friends. Amongst
numerous other achievements, Gomez recently provided the
voice-overs for the character of the mayor's daughter in the
blockbuster animated film, Horton Hears a Who, starring Jim
Carrey and Steve Carell. Gomez also recently debuted her own
feature Disney Channel show, The Wizards of Waverley Place, in
which she plays the lead role.
It seems, however, that Gomez may not appreciate the frequent
comparisons being made
between her and fellow Disney star
Miley Cyrus, who has made the news
several times in the last number of
months after suggestive photos of her
appeared in Vanity Fair magazine and
a number of other racy photos surfaced
on the Internet.
Gomez recently told Extra about
her plans to live chastely until marriage.
"I said, 'Dad, I want a promise
ring,'" Gomez told Extra. "He went to
the church and got it blessed. He actually
used me as an example for other Gomez
kids."

"I'm going to keep my promise, for myself, for my family, and
for God," she said.
In a previous interview with Extra, Gomez was asked by the
interviewer if her mother had allowed her to start dating. Gomez
confirmed that she was allowed to go on dates, and had gone on
a few, though she said she is subject to a curfew. When asked if
she had a steady boyfriend Gomez laughed and shook her head:
"I'm fifteen. I don't need a boyfriend."
In donning the purity ring, Gomez joins an increasing number
of youth-stars who are reacting against the pervasive promiscuity
of the entertainment industry and embracing pre-marital chastity.
Others who have made public their intentions to remain chaste
until marriage include Jordin Sparks, the American Idol winner,
and the members of the pop group, the Jonas Brothers.
However, in an interview on the issue with momlogic.com,
Gomez denied that she was simply jumping on the bandwagon.
"I've had my ring ever since I was 12 years old," she said. "But
for me it's not something I want to go around saying 'Hey, look
what I have.' It's a promise that I made to myself and to God.
I think sometimes people misinterpret that and think it's just a
trend and everyone's getting one."
Church bulletin insert tackles
immodest dress
What is appropriate dress for church? Bill Johnson of the
American Decency Association addresses that issue via a church
bulletin insert.
The insert, first published in 2007 by Johnson's organization,
deals with immodest dress in church. The bulletin -- now
available for download in PDF format -- is a much sought-after
resource. But Johnson says he is not surprised that some people
are still confused when it comes to appropriate dress for church.
"They dress like what they see on television without recognition
of the fact that we are called-out people, a chosen people, ...
a separate people," he explains. "[The Bible tells us] we are to
be in the world but not of it."
Johnson says he has heard a good deal on the subject from
men and pastors who are seeking solutions to the problem.
"They look up and here comes someone who is scantily clad,
cleavage bearing, [and] has a little skirt halfway up the thigh,"
he describes. And while scripture is clear on what a man should
cast his eyes upon and what he should not, he argues it is also
clear about how a woman or girl should dress modestly.
"I believe that biblical femininity certainly does include a modest
look," he continues. "The attire on a day-by-day [basis] should
also match this high call that God makes clear to all of us."
Johnson argues that immodest dress is one area that Satan uses
to drive division in the church. He suggests people simply go to
church with the attitude of doing nothing that will distract anyone
from worship.
